FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FROM: Tony Coniglio, Publicity Chairman, Lamoine Emergency Amateur Radio =
Club
SUBJECT: June 22 - 23 National Field Day 2002
Members of the Lamoine Emergency Amateur Radio Club and other interested =
ham radio operators will join hams from all over the United States, =
Canada, and South and Central America, as well as other countries of the =
world in Field Day 2002, this Saturday and Sunday. Field Day will be =
held at the Argyle Lake State Park equestrian pavilion from 1 PM =
Saturday through 11 AM Sunday.
The field day is open to the public as well as all interested hams. It =
is also an opportunity to demonstrate what amateur radio is all about. =
Participants will be glad to answer questions and demonstrate as they =
talk to fellow ham operators. =20
The main function of Field Day is to be available, and know procedures =
in case of any emergency situation. Many times during a disaster, such =
as tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, earth quakes and other national =
disasters, communications is one of the first things to be affected, and =
ham radio is the only way contact can be made with the outside world.
Recently, ham radio worked with crews at the World Trade Center 9/11 =
site, the Colorado wild fires, as well as sea rescues.
The Lamoine Emergency Amateur Radio Club members are very active locally =
as storm spotters, and provide communications for local activities such =
as events during Heritage Days.
