LAUNCH FOLLOW UP
As previously reported, a Falcon 9 rocket was launched yesterday afternoon from Vandenberg SFB. Launch Alert reader Pete the Pilot and his wife drove up to the base to view the launch. As a retired Coast Guard officer, he was able to access a viewing area on base. The site was a high bluff on the north edge of the Santa Ynez River flood plain (this is probably the old Titan IV press site).
Pete reported the sky was totally obscured by low clouds and he didn't see any trace of the launch. He said the launch was quite loud and he enjoyed the sound. To his dismay, the sky above the viewing area cleared shortly after liftoff. Although Pete and his wife didn't see the launch, they didn't go away empty handed: They apparently got a good deal on lettuce at the base commissary.
