Our amateur radio club is starting to plan for Field Day 2004, and I am
planning to set up a laser communications station (it is worth a voice contact, a
CW contact, and a digital contact, plus a 100 point bonus if we use a
non-traditional mode (like pulse width modulation).

I was wondering if others are planning Field Day operations ( and if you are
not, at least get you to think about it). It should be an interesting display
for the public, even if you just set up some LEDs to demonstrate the concept
at 10 to 20 feet range. Lets let the world know how much fun it is to talk on
a light beam!

If anybody knows, does MCW count as CW or Digital under the field day rules.
If it is classed as CW, I will try PSK or something else for the digital
mode. If it is classed as digital, then I will set up a keyed Morse laser
transmitter that is not pulse modulated and a receiver for it. Anyone done this
before?
