Hi - just thought I'd share my small success.

At long last I have achieved a IR Cloud bounce image , I was beginning =
to think it was not possible with 5mw, but there it was not very big and =
not very bright BUT it was there. equipment lash up was a 5mw IR CD =
player laser diode and 1inch collimator.modulated at 800 hz with on off =
keying via pic chip .The image was viewed on B/W monitor and captured =
using 0.1 lux CCD B/W camera.This being fitted with a 135 mm =
telephoto.The combination was aligned at a local house chimney stack to =
ensure they were coincident then I rotated the two until they pointed =
straight up and there faintly shimmering and going on and off was the =
Laser signal.I then adjusted the elevation down in 10 deg steps the =
image got progressively dimmer and was not visible at 30deg elevation.
Well this has spurned me on and today I fitted the CCD camera with an =
old commercial TV f2.8 4inch dia. telephoto, this I hope will brighten =
the image. Next step is to get several independent lasers aligned to =
coincide to a similar area in the sky, theory being the larger the area =
covered with the signal the easier it will be to find when I start =
actual communication with friend 13km away behind a hill!

Hope this encourages others to keep trying....
