I had a Lafayette HB-525 CB which I bought in 1979, I believe. There
was a Lafayette store near me, then, which is now one of those "Big
and Tall" mens stores. Anyway, 23 channels, AM only, built like a
tank... paid $200 for it back then and also got the portable battery
pack that took about a dozen C batteries and had a telescopic
antenna. Beautiful radio, but at some point it just stopped working
so I gave it to a work buddy "for parts", and also he was some kind
of electronics genius who might be able to fix it up, but he never did.

Saw my old $200 radio on eBay recently in the $10-20 neighborhood.
Sigh...
