All this talke about old Lafayette ham rigs has me yearning for more info.
Is there a particular site where I can go to glimpse some of the gear you are
talking about?

I had a 2 chnl Lafayette CB set in the mid-late 60s, that was portable
(luggable?) with a shoulder strap.

The, in college I had a multi-band receiver (not sure of the model number)
that I used for general SWL work. Dual slide rule dials.

Other than that, I am a little un-informed when it comes to Lafayett gear.

HR-10 receivers: Got one....nice old Heathkit Novice receiver and it is in
primo condition. WHat type of tube preamp were you refering to to increase
it's usefullness on 10M?

vy 73 es sri abt the "newbie questions"

Rich, get a Copy of Osterman's book "Communications Receivers". I believe
Universal Radio sells them. If you love receivers as much as me, you will spend
HOURS looking at the photos and reading the specs.
Plus, it gives you a (somewhat dated) idea what they are worth.

If you plan to buy an old Lafayette on ePay, er, eBay, especially one like
an HE-80, with the large slide rule dial, make sure that the white scale is not
peeling of from inside! If so, these are good 'parts radios'....

I recently bought a couple of HE-80s and although they needed some cleaning
up, cap replacement, alignment, and a repaint, they work great and were cheap!
This is easy stuff to do.
