NEW DEC for Area 2 Nick Bailey, KG4URI reports that local amateurs of
the Hopkins County ARES/RACES group participated in a community response
tabletop exercise on July 22. The tabletop included the following
agencies: Hopkins Co EMA, Muhlenberg Co EMA, Trover Foundation in
Madisonville, CSX Railroad hazmat team, Madisonville Fire and many other
public safety depts. He further reports that the Regional Medical
Center's EOC now has provisions for amateur radio operations during
large scale operations or a disaster.
----------------------------------------------------
Area 7 was very active in Public Service this month!
Area 7 amateurs took a hand July 12 assisting with communications for
the Paddlefest which is a canoeing and kayaking. A section of the Ohio
River is closed as participants race downstream for 6 miles from the
Four Seasons Marina to the Serpentine Wall, both in Cincinnati, OH. The
amateurs provided communications support at the parking/boat launch area
and manned 5 safety boats along the route. They were also located at
the finish line and boat take-out area.
The fifteen amateurs logged 80 Man hours in Public Service for the
event.
Nine amateurs from the KY7ET were used as relays for 911 emergencies
calls being received at Boone County Dispatch for Grant and Pendleton
Counties after a main phone trunk line was cut in Grant County on July
28, 2005 for a period of 3 hours and 45 minutes until service was
restored.
----------------------------------------------------
District 13
Fayette Co ARES and Bluegrass Amateur Radio Society assisted with
communications for the Bluegrass 10,000. This is an annual foot race
event with over 4,000 participants. The eighteen amateurs who
participated racked up 90 man hours in the effort.
