on 146.76 minus. This repeater is located in Lexington KY. The range is =
approximately 40 to 50 miles. The purpose is to make available items for =
sale, trade or give-away, amateur and related equipment. It is a =
directed net and all stations are welcomed to participate. Besides items =
for sale/trade, stations may also ask questions concerning ham radio, =
make announcements or just check in.=20

An inexpensive (around $200 or so) HF transceiver. Mike is =

                                EARTHQUAKES

KG4RRI, Brandon, who works for the UK Geological Department offers the =
following info if anyone wants to track the recent earthquakes in =
Western KY and IN.=20

 John,

The Kentucky Geological Survey is a research andpublic service =
institute within the University of

Kentucky. Information on Kentucky earthquakes isavailable at the =
Survey's web site, see:=20

http://www.uky.edu/KGS/geologichazards/geologichazards.html=20

(If this link is split across two lines, go to ww.uky.edu/kgs then click =
on the Geologic Hazards

icon in the upper right.)

Of more immediate interest, the Survey and University maintain a =
network of earthquake monitoring equipment in Kentucky. Within minutes =
of the June 18 earthquake,

seismograph records of the event were available online. At the KGS =
Geologic Hazards page, click on the Kentucky Seismic and Strong-Motion =
Network link. The

link for "real-time recordings" is in the text at the top of the page. =
Click that link and choose a record. =20

The direct web address for the page is: =
http://www.uky.edu/KGS/geologichazards/EarthquakeRecording/welcome.html

The date and time of the records is UTC. You will need to look at the =
6/18/2002 records. Look at the LOKY (Lockhart Bluff) record. This =
station is a bit

northwest of Paducah. Scroll down to the 17:00 line and then scroll to =
the right. The event was recorded at about 17:37:30 UTC (1:37 EDT). You =
will also note

some aftershock events. Each of the horizontal lines on the chart =
represents a 15-minute recording. The color of the horizontal lines is =
cycled to make it

easier to track. Each of the vertical lines divides the chart into =
minutes. The Lexington record is BHKY. The event arrived at Lexington =
about 17:38, 30+/- seconds after it was recorded near Paducah. Analysis =
of this time difference from several recording stations is what is used =
to determine the location of the quake.

Any problems with the links or questions, email me at the Survey, =
[email protected].=20
