[KYHAM] 2 Meter Antenna Question

Gene writes in part:

To expand on the point, that of not mounting the antenna near a grounded
object - doesn't that hold true with any of our antennae? A second point
is this: Some users of the twin lead in "J-Pole" feel as I do about the
connection at the feed point. I hold the belief, based on some very
elementary testing, that the coax feeding the antenna should be
perpendicular to the antenna for some distance, at least one wavelength.
Seems as though better thing happen when it is at 90 degrees. I realize
that in many instances, this is difficult, but if hung on a wall or from
the ceiling, why not?

Just had to butt in.

It is noted that the "J-Pole is a durative of the lighter than air Zeppelin
communications antenna or "Zepp" which had a large aluminum frame of the
airship for a ground plane. In the dipole called a double extended Zepp, it
is balanced and has the other half to reference or to work against. This it
is reasonable to not be surprised to find that signal strength improves if
the coaxial feed is perpendicular or at a right angle to the antenna
deployment direction.
