Good morning,
I am currently restoring a TS930s serial 5100012 and it would appear, the
same serial number is printed on the Kenwood shipping box, that this TS930s
began life in Germany having been supplied to a Kenwood dealer in Hannover
and the address label being from the German arm of Kenwood. I have no idea
of how many owners this rig may have had during its life, but I recently
obtained it from a UK source.
On removing the covers, I was surprised to find that additional circuitry
had been added, which may be an FM facility, by Dewsbury Electronics G4CLX,
Stourbridge UK. The addition consists of a small PCB hanging in the wiring
beneath the TS930s chassis and another more complex PCB is fitted beneath
the memory battery box, adjacent the loudspeaker, a Dewsbury Electronics
G4CLX label is attached to the PCB chassis.. Based on my career experience,
I would say that the addition was professionally installed, possibly by
Dewsbury Electronics G4CLX. Unfortunately Dewsbury Electronics G4CLX is no
longer trading
I have tried searching via Google, asking my amateur radio friends, for
information, but without success, other than to be told that this addition
to the TS930s may have been something to do with the use of a 28 Mhz
repeater facility. Personally I have never heard of this 28 Mhz repeater
activity, nor seen any publicity material offering such an addition for the
TS930s, but I work 100% CW so that is not surprising.
I would like to ask the Kenwood community for their help, does anyone have
any knowledge of this addition for the TS930s, operational instructions
would be very useful, a copy of the paperwork supplied with the addition, by
Dewsbury Electronics G4CLX would be perfect.
The restoration of this TS930s is almost complete and I now have to decide
whether to leave the Dewsbury addition installed, in which case the
instructions are required, or return the TS930s to its original form.
I would be grateful for any assistance, details, links etc. that the group
might be able to offer.
Sincerely, John. G3JVC / GM3JVC.
