What I did was to remove the digital read out. The same thing going on,
loose audio-tap or wiggle VFO box and audio returns for a few turns of
the VFO dial then quiet again.
If it was my Drakes a bit of De-oxit would fix it :)

Tim....My 820 is on the shelf, and has not been turned on in a
     while.

BUT...I can almost GUARANTEE that if I plug it in now, the
frequency
display will be "wiggy" or not work at all. Then, I'd reseat that
connector and all will be well!!

I can also almost GUARANTEE that if I plugged in my TS520S....it
     will work perfectly!

Anyway....the 820 display connector as I recall was under the top
lid, towards the front...with its' wiring going to the display. As
I
recall, it is about an inch long...I remember first finding
it...just by looking, so it must be pretty easy.

If you can't find it at all, let me know...I'll plug my 820 in this
     weekend!

     ....Dave

When I touch VFO dial the audio cuts out
and the dig ro goes blank. If I wiggle the VFO box the
audio
comes in and cuts out. Almost like I need to de-ox
something? Where is the ro connector located while I stand
in front of rig looking downwards?

Thanks to Cliff Holland the audio is up now. I
heard one RTTY signal and one CW. That's it.

Next problem is that the dig. read out is fixed on 19.000
and shorts on & off as the dial is turned. Freq readout
stays the same no matter which band I put it on. Wiggling
the main VFO dial and the internal PTO makes the readout
come and go OFF. I never mentioned that this was a gift
             several years ago.
