Since human voice carries most of its intelligence (hmmm...) between
300 and 3000 Hz, it doesn't make much sense to transmit wider than 2.7
kHz for maximum intelligibility and not exceed transmission bandwidth
standards on HF. Widening to 3 KHz will not really add to anything,
your actual voice will be carried with less average power as some of
the power will be wasted transmitting noise and parts of the voice
which are not necessary and (may not be even heard) for the
intelligence carried over the transmission media.
In order to tailor the available bandwidth to your individual voice
characteristics, you can employ an equalizer which will enhance the
spectrum of your voice which may not be strong, reducing
intelligibility, but within the restraints of 2.7 KHz (or rather 2.4
KHz which doesn't take anything away from the intelligibility. Smart
tailoring of the audio response will make your voice sound fuller and
more penetrating, all pluses for radio communications.
MHO and experience (also profession as EE...) but YMMV.
