[Kenwood] Re: TM-733 backlight working!

Thanks for the super advice!  The TM-733 has four backlight bulbs.  I 
tried some tiny Radio Shack bulbs (272-1140) but they were too large in 
diameter to fit through the holes in the circuit board.  I dug through 
the junkbox and found some grain of wheat bulbs.  They fit into the 
holes so I soldered one in and whatdoyaknow, it worked!  I believe the 
grain of wheat bulbs are 12-14 vdc. 

The copy of the service manual I found online listed the original bulbs 
(or lamps) as 6.3 v at 75 ma.  Their Kenwood part number is 
B30-0865-15.  Their reference number on the display's circuit board is 
PL1-PL4.  (service manual link -

I'll put the other three bulbs in tomorrow.  But for now I can read the 
display without a flashlight !!  :)
