Depends on what you mean by "it takes about 5-10 seconds for the transceiver to turn on". A common "problem" (more like a "quirk") is that the display will take a few seconds to "light up" if the radio's been off for a while. On my two '850's, the radio will turn on, I hear output from the receiver/speakers, but the display may take a few seconds to light up. Happens on every '850 and I don't remember seeing any reports of permanent display loss...yet.

Subject: [Kenwood] TS-850S Delayed Power-Up

When I power up my TS-850S after being disconnected from the DC supply for a few days it takes about 5-10 seconds for the transceiver to turn on. After this there is no problem and if I us it on a regular basis it powers up instantly.

Has anybody had a similar experience? I'm mainly concerned as to whether or not this may be the first sign of a larger issue.

Thanks,

Anthony
