Hi John.  For SSB I almost always use 200-2600 to get a natural sound.  For
crowded band conditions you can restrict that on one end or the other to
reduce QRM.  For me, listening to SSB with the low cutoff set to 500 or 600
Khz makes it too difficult to understand, and unpleasant to listen to.  Just
play with it and do whatever works well for you.

For FSK441, I often set the passband to 600-2600.  This encompasses just the
Range of the tones and reduces the noise input to the sound card from
frequencies that are not needed.  However, unless you have a lot of noise,
restricting the range like that does not make any real difference.

For JT65 I almost always stay with the 200-2600, except when there might be
strong birdies in the lower or upper passband.  If that happens, I still
leave the receiver open until I figure out where the desired receive signal
is.  Then I will restrict the passband to eliminate the birdie if it will
not also eliminate part of the desired signal.  In reality, this mostly only
helps you, the listener.  The WSJT program has it's own filters and will
pretty much ignore the birdies anyway, unless they are in the middle of the
desired signal's range.  If the birdie is very strong, cutting it off may
help WSJT even when it is outside of the desired signal's spectrum.  You can
also use MBC (manual beat cancel) to eliminate a single birdie anywhere in
the passband.  But that will not work for birdies that are in the middle of
the JT65 signal, because MBC is too wide and will also remove several of the
adjacent JT65 tones.  I would not try to use the automatic beat cancel
because it is likely to remove the good stuff as well.
