I've repeatedly read that if you get an 8 or 9 million serial number, you'll
have one great radio. I bought a 9 mil and am still getting used to it. So
far, I like it a lot. Go to eham.net and you can read quite a few user
reviews. You can also do a search on the web for modifications, which will
give you a feel for possible shortcomings of earlier units.
