Hi Bob

I had the same problem with a Heath SB101 which turned out to be the VFO 
tuning capacitor contacts having dried out. I use a SMALL amount of switch cleaner 
to relubricate the contacts which worked as a short term fix. Eventually I 
took the VFO apart and re-greased the bearings.
