[Kenwood] Kenwood TM-733A

I have a problem and looking for wise counsel. I have a TM-'733A, 2M/440, 
transceiver that is exhibiting poor receive on one "channel".

The radio is designed to operate in one of three modes; VHF/UHF, VHF/VHF, 
or UHF/UHF.  When operated in the VHF/VHF mode, one receiver (bottom one) 
is intermittent and scratchy while the other receiver (upper one) operates 
quite well.

When switched to the VHF/UHF mode, the receiver that was scratchy on VHF 
operates very well.

This is a new occurrence  ....  the radio has operated for years on VHF/VHF 
with identical results on both positions.

Any thoughts or insights out there?  All comments will be appreciated.

Yup, I thought there was but one [VHF] receiver and two controls, but maybe 
not.
