Steve,

You hit the nail on the head. We all make "stupid mistakes"
once in awhile, however, most will not "own up" to them like
you. Glad the the problem was only "operator error".

Now, since you have shared the info on this to this list,
hopefully, someonce else will be helped by your mistake. I
know you are a much better "happy camper". Ever since
S Meters have been used in RXs and XCVRS, the reading
(or the meter function if you will) has been a function of the
AGC voltage. The stronger the signal, the larger the AGC
voltage. Maybe you didn't operate the rig much with the
"malfunctioning" S Meter, but if you did very unusual that
you didn't notice any distortion on strong signals with the
AGC disabled. Course not familar with TS-2000.

Thanks for who all gave me some advice on the s-meter problem. I took the
radio in to the store and the service guy and I sat down with it and played
around with the rig so the service guy could see exactly what was wrong. He
asked
where the "AGC" button was. So I showed him and he pushed it and turned it
back
on. Problem solved! Now I feel stupid, but all hams make mistakes once in a
while hihi. Must have played with the AGC a while back and didnt fully know
what it did.
