[Kenwood] Possession of Amateur TX Equipment

In the U.S., it is not illegal to own amateur radio gear (or just about any
other transmitting equipment) without a license. It is illegal to use it
inappropriately. Many of us, including myself, purchased amateur equipment
from folks in anticipation of getting our licenses. In my case, getting that
gear made getting my ticket easier.

I've never knowingly sold a piece of ham equipment to a non-amateur, but I'm
not so sure that I wouldn't. If it were the right person and they planned on
becomming a ham, then I would do them the same service one old-timer did me
back in the '70's- I'd sell them the gear and wish them good luck on getting
their ticket. It seems that some of us live in a world where we
automatically assume the worst about everyone. I understand the urge, but
lets keep in mind not everyone who buys a ham rig and doesn't have a call is
a bootlegger. (Altough this was certainly the case in the recent example...)
Hey, some guys even have non-ham wives who buy them gear now and again! ;)

Food for thought.

73,
Scott, N9AI
