[Kenwood] Buying a used kenwood

Hi,

A good outboard DSP filter such as a JPS or Timewave may be of more help 
than any specific radio unless you get into fairly high-end cost.

If the line noise is coming in on mains lead you might be helped by a 
simple choke or EMI filter. Even better would be to run the rig from a 12 
VDC storage battery.

If the EMI from trains is radiated and coming in as RF through antenna, 
you might consider remoting your antenna. Sometimes 200 or 300 feet can 
make a big difference. You'll have some loss in coax, but not a big 
deal at HF. I'm assuming you live in an apartment building. 
Maybe moving antenna around on roof or even to an adjacent roof (depending 
on possibilities) will serve to greatly lower noise level. If hiss bothers 
you consider external low-passing the audio output or rolling off the AF 
output stage in radio; DSP boxes mentioned above are better.

But Canada is a beautiful country with many remote and RF quiet QTHs, 
hihi.
