[Kenwood] difference between ts-440 and ts-450

If you are interested in a 450, don't forget that the TS-690 is a TS450 

with 6 meters.  The service manual is the same for both rigs.

To do 6 meter repeaters that use tones with the 690 requires an optional 
TU-8 tone board.  The TU-8 tone is set with dip switches that require 
you to open the radio to change.  An other option here is an external 
tone box like the Communications Specialists TE-32 that lets you select 
any tone with a rotary switch.  I have a TE-32 to install one of these 
days...

Another useful option (in my opinion) to watch for is the auto tuner.
The model number adds AT, as 450S becomes 450SAT.  However, the face 
plate of my rig says only 690S, but it does have the auto tuner.  I know
that the AT was added by a prevous owner.  The "S" face plate has all 
the required buttons for the AT.  Maybe someone on the list can tell us 
a way to spot if the AT is installed.
