[KCDXC] Field Day

If I recall correctly, and remember this was IN THE PAST- changes are always
welcome- members usually went to the clubs that did not contest, to pass on
knowledge and assist in the operation. Some took it as a "day of rest" from
the contesting that was ongoing all year in one form or another. Except for
the time Steve got everyone out to Raytown (which is a top notch operation
by the way), most of the people in the 90's and then some would head out to
NX0I's place in Mayview (man I miss that place), or operate from one of the
local clubs. I know that when I appeared at either the Jayhawk club or one
of the local clubs, we were pressed into operation for quite a while. If the
club does host a field day- that would be awesome.
Field Day in my mind is a chance to spread the word about the club and
contesting. SOME clubs see it as a chance for a general get together- with
radio as a sideline. Jayhawk is a prime example.....tons of bodies during
food times but a full test of the emergency capabilities is really lacking.
So it generally results in a few active bodies, and alot of people with the
"I am here, I did my part" attitude. Which is unfortunate.

I myself am planning on trying to make Raytown- been too many years since I
have sat behind an hf rig. It will make the old body feel good.
