You're the keeper of the fire, buddy. Nice to know the recent history of the place. I wonder if you or a friend has a digi-cam, and would be willing to take a few shots of the places we recall? I especially wonder if the "World Fountain" is still in place, as it was often a navigational-marker for me, when the really heavy fog would be in, and I was trying to find my way back to the barracks. - not kidding!
Also, are any of the old wooden barracks or the former chow-hall remaining? How about any of the former classroom buildings? (that's the first place I saw one of the INfamous clocks, running backwards (the field-coil of the clock is inverted over the enclosed-sealed "works", and the clock runs backwards) I recall ET1 Thibadoux (Tibb-a-dough) NOT finding that funny, as we sat there attempting to absorb multivibrator theory.
It's always amazed me (personally), why I didn't stop by the shack, when I passed through again in '67, on my way to Guam Island (and further)? Lots of things going through my head at the time, I guess (or maybe NOTHING)... then again in '69 - who knows?
Any ideas on LESS EXPENSIVE accomodations for those of us who would be flying in? I know that SFRAN is not the cheapest place to stay... my cry that "I'm a Native - can't you help me?"... just don't seem to work.
