[K6NCG] Just Found the K6NCG Site

If you thought Pete has it easy visiting, I live a half-mile away..!

Unfortunately, I wasn't out here at all before 1999 and have never been
in the Navy. I'm just an active ham with an active interest in the
history of the island. The Island is in an odd state of "limbo" now
between the city and Navy.

Pete and I are serious about the opportunities to do field day from here
running out. The master redeveloper has plans to eventually level
everything except buildings 1,2, and 3.

The original shack out on the west shore has been replaced by housing
decades ago and the new shack by the post office was flattened when the
city moved in. I'm told that this was premature and the Navy wasn't
happy about it so there is still something to visit, including the base
of the tower from 1972 complete with the callsigns that were left in the
wet cement at the time. Some of you know who you are!

I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to live out here, since my place
is scheduled to go someday. This year however, I'm commodore of the TI
Yacht Club http://www.tiyc.org and I will find a way to accommodate
whoever wants to come out for Field Day. Last year we tried to do this
and ran into a number of obstacles, not the least of which was that only
Pete and I made it. We did manage to get K6NCG into a couple of dozen
log books, though! A few more hands and a little more planning would
make it work. (It was also a conflict with a big event at the yacht
club which won't be a problem this year.

Give some though to coming out for a visit this year in late June. If
you have an RV, that would be best. I think I can get permission to
stay overnight at the barbecue area that's right next to the old 70's
shack. We can also do this from the yacht club parking lot if that
works better. I just need to find out if anyone's coming out to know
what I have to plan for. We could also set up something else. Field
Day is June 28-29, 2008.

I might not be here next year.

 From TI,

Desmond, KC6VHG
