[K6BW] Tuesday Night at Hamilton

Hi David,

Congratulations on the 20M score! Radio conditions have not been very
favorable, at least for record breaking. 155 countries! Amazing. Hope you
can get rest, I imagine with the deprivation and plane ride that you are
seeing double.

Not too much progress with the star. Some of the light strings have come
loose but they can be reattached. One of the supports is broken. Will have
to either climb the tower to repair it or attempt to drop the star so we can
work on it on the ground.

Have a couple of L-brackets that can be applied as a splice. Will have to
drill holes through the brackets and also the broken ends of the struts,
then attach the brackets with stainless screws and bolts. Should also have
a rod or pole we can put in the center to keep the struts in line. The
aluminum struts are hollow, but don't yet know the diameter. Think we
jammed a section of a wooden broom handle through a previous break.

Hope to get to it this weekend. It is supposed to rain all the rest of the
week, but be clear this weekend. Do you have time to help?

Have to get at least one other person (we need a minimum of three) if we
choose to lower the star. Although I don't know what complications might
develop from attempting to repair it in place, dropping the star will also
be difficult. The support rope is now cut too short and should be replaced
if we choose to drop the star. Also the nearby oak tree has grown somewhat
and is really in the way now.

At least we have a number of replacement bulbs. :-)

  Bill,
Any luck with the star last weekend?

I got back from Pennsylvania yasterday. I did the
whole 48-hour contest without sleep. Overall, we
didn't win but made more than 6,000 QSOs. I was on
20M, and ended up with the top 20M score overall with
just about 2500 QSOs in 155 countries.

  73, Dave
