Hi Phil,
   Here is what I use for the FT-8800r and he also has it for the FT-8900r, 
price is $15.00. http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/   It works just fine  and the updates 
are free. Just buy a cable and save a lot of time and effort.  I think you can 
get one on ebay for less than $10.00 though you may have to look for a while.

I picked up a Yaesu FT-8900r but I need to know if the club/users has/have 
standardized on any particular memory management software for the rig?

I found software and a cable at

for $38 I don't even know if there is another option. Also, I can't believe it 
is all that difficult to make the cable, on the other hand buying the USB cable 
and a mini din-male connector might price it at the same cost as simply buying 
one. I looked at the clone cable (has anyone made on yet?) and it is two wires, 
ground and one data line.

Any ideas or advice?
