[K3PZN-List] Who is the resident computer expert of the club ??

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS x86
BIOS is from around 2001-2003 (uncertain as to exact era)
BIOS has option for CHS, LBA, Large and AUTO for HDD "Access Mode"
(Is Large = LBA48 ?)
I had kept BIOS at AUTO and 500GB was detected.
For Scott's question, the drive was originally detected as 500GB when I first installed it.
I copied over my data but hadn't expanded any partition to the full size of the drive yet.
(Wanted to make sure all was well before I did)
(gparted from liveCD and Ubuntu can see the full 500GB drive, when it was still detected)
For Steve's question bootloader is GRUB and worked before drive was no longer detected.
I was able to boot to Ubuntu and check email but now the drive is no longer booting.
This IDE error is new to me, the bug reports are a few years old in some cases and more recent in others.
(Some are Ubuntu 7.10 others are Ubuntu 9.04)
But for me I didn't get this error till after the 500GB drive went bad and I put the old one back in.
(The error occurs with the old 30GB)
I think I did notice a jumper setting for 137GB on the new drive.
But didn't set it that way because I thought the BIOS could take it.
(Unless I am mistaken in regards to the Large = LBA48 thing)
I'll try to see if that makes a difference.
(I am little uncertain that the drive may not have suffered some damage by now.)
