[K3PZN-List] Field Day 2006

Sounds like this topic is on vacation thru the holiday
weekend ... FB.

Some further thoughts on potential co-location of a
"big FD" and "QRP battery FD event."

1. location needs to be practical for two "sites" - a
big one and a small one. while the QRP setup would
use battery for rigs, it would like to use "just a
little" generator power for logging PCs and lighting.

2. a high end QRP operation could be 3 transmitters:

station 1 - 40m CW
station 2 - 20 and 80m CW
station 3 - "odd modes" - this could use PSK31, SSB
and potentially VHF ?

note the bulk of QRP QSOs in this time of low sunspots
and summer QRN will clearly be CW, but this third
station could add some interest!

3. real important - got to do just a little
engineering toward having 3 simultaneous transmitters
on the "key bands" - i expect the bulk of QSOs will be
on 20, 40 and 80 maybe in that order. 2 100 watt
stations (CW and SSB) and one from the QRP crew need
to thrive. a little effort to orient the 40 and 20
antennas optimally, and maximize 80m separation are
required. we likely will want to use higher end QRP
rigs, and some coordination of "run" frequencies on
CW. all do-able.

4. we have to find enough batteries, and opt for rigs
with reasonable power consumption particularly on
receive. i know the club has dispersed enough gel
cells over the years, so we should be covered.

5. need to optimize distribution of operators across
the two efforts. the QRP gang will likely have less
transmitters and require fewer ops - but we still need
a bunch. possible incentive - i am sure we will set
up and tear down much faster!

6. antennas - more important on QRP side! my ideas
are wire vertical for 20m, dipole for 40m, and an
end-fed half wave on 80m. obviously we can be as
creative as we want to be over here!
