[K3PZN-List] Field Day 2006

I heard the QRP FD suggestion via Rich and couldn't
believe my ears! Some of us in the area had discussed
a QRP FD operation, but it hasn't gotten off the
ground yet. I could likely round up 4-6 operators who
would be interested in participating from neighboring
clubs (particularly BARC and CARA).

QRP is not everyone's cup of tea. Its almost insane
for SSB operation in June, more so with low sunspots.
We don't want to diminish the fun of the "heavy metal"
gang who wants big beams and power!

The idea of a co-located smaller QRP operation (with a
different crew and call sign) is appealing. It would
be an interesting demo of what can be done with less.
If we swiped the club's best CW ops we could roll up a
nifty score, but that wouldn't be the motivation. A
suitable QRP adjunct might be 2-3 transmitters, CW and
maybe PSK31, running rigs under battery power. I
still favor PCs for logging and these are allowed to
operate off the generator. We would need enough
separation from the main operation so we can
simultaneously use the primary bands (80/40/20), but
close enough we can mingle.

If there is club interest in hosting an adjunct QRP
operation I am interested in helping it occur, and I
can recruit some area QRP operators to add to our own
crew (KE3FL?, N3III, etc.).
