Hi John and welcome,
I don't know that there is a list of VII's serial # vs manufacture dates.
I've had three or four over a number of yrs and I do believe that the early models
didn't have the clamp tube circuit. Had one that a previous owner install it
on the bracket under the chassis to mount the 6AQ5 and accessories.
Would probably be a good addition to add it to your set. I know on the VI
it didn't have one and you can damage the 829B in the final in a heartbeat
by applying HV and no grid drive.

Subject: [Johnson] New member starting on a Viking II
Hi to all:This is John Saxon, K5ENQ, in Pearland, TX. Just received a very nice Viking II, and starting to check it out (a VFO 122 and Matchbox are also on the way). I am feeling very lucky as this V-II seems to be in very good condition. I hope I don't abuse my welcome in the weeks to come as I run into issues.1. My serial # is 5054. Can we tell if that is an early model from the serial #?2. Something weird. I read on another forum of a ham who received a Viking II in the mail and the 3 rectifier tubes had come out of their sockets and had broken. I had the same thing happen to mine.3. I prepared tube labels to go under the chassis next to the tube sockets and discovered my V-II has 1 fewer tube than the manual I downloaded from BAMA. The schematic shows a 6AQ5 which at first glance of the schematic appears to be a clamp tube for the 6146s. My V-II does not have that tube. The manual has 13 tubes in the parts list, my V-II has 12 tubes. The spot for the 6AQ5 and R30 pot are just blank chassis on mine. Could it be that the clamp tube was added on later models? Could it be I have a very early model?Thank you very much. Isn't it great to be able to consult a group of genuine experts on these issues? :-)73,JohnK5ENQ______________________________________________________________Johnson mailing listHome: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/johnsonHelp: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htmPost: mailto:Johnson at mailman.qth.netThis list hosted by: http://www.qsl.netPlease help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
