Looking through my Johnson parts catalogs from 1947 to catalog #700 from sometime in the 60s, no spark gaps are listed.  It looks like just a pair of small brackets set atop ceramic standoffs, with regular screws nuts and a pair of acorn nuts on the ends making up the contact gap.  Attaced are excerpts from the manual and a couple of images found online.  If somebody has a 500 kit assembly manual, that would undoubtedly give even more detail on the assembly of this contraption.
