Well hello Roy,
Fancy meeting you here on the Johnson list! We met on the Hallicrafters list
when I was trying to decide about that early SX-28 with the geared
bandspread. It was bought by Olaf Madsen KF4TP, who has gotten it working
right away! He has restored five other SX-28's so he knew what he was in
for. He could sell all those old Hallicrafters, and on the proceeds spend a
year in Europe tasting wines.
We never did get around to talking about guitars or old pianos.
At your latest convenience, why don't you sell me your hacked-up Viking I,
and I'll use its parts for my exciter--unless it too is restorable. Then I
can sell my Viking II to someone who will treat it kindly.
What really tickles my whiskers in ham radio is home-brewing transmitters
and receivers from scratch, rather than restoring old gear. So when I see an
old piece of equipment my "knacker man" instinct comes to the fore.
Cheers,
Brian
