That claim about "rare" is a bit bogus Brian. There was a fairly large 
number of CDC models made for the USA and I use one often. There was a 
smaller run made for Canada under a military contract which likely confused 
that author.

I run mine on 12 and 17M AM and the standard model should cover 12M 
according to the manual graphs but Ive not tried.

Ive done many of the audio mods from those 1998 ER's and they work well with 
my D-104.
