[Johnson] Johnson T-R Switch Receiver muting

The Johnson T-R switch was never designed for any sort of muting capability;
strictly to keep direct RF from being applied to the front end of the
receiver hooked up to the same antenna as the transmitter. Front-end
overload was a byproduct of the scheme. Those of us who used it put up with
the received signal with our AVC turned off and probably have suffered a
loss of hearing as if we had been listening to rock n roll for all those QSK
years (which I guess in reality we were - so two strikes).

Johnson did have a Signal Sentry (CW/Phone Monitor) that was designed do
nothing but mute. However, it injected a side tone whereas most of us true
QSK aficionados like to know exactly where our signal was wrt the other
station.  Ken K5RG
