Jim, N9JF and Danny, NG9R have reminded us of the rule changes that pertain
to certain entry class stations this year regarding transmitter power level.
In a further note, Jim emphasized the importance of declaring a power level
class in the information accompanying your log entry. First I just wanted
to echo Jim's words as to the importance of indicating a power class as not
all logging programs report this information automatically. As Danny, NG9R
reported, a High Power or Low Power designation only applies to the Illinois
Fixed Station Class and to the Non-Illinois Class Stations. Note: The QRP
competition remains unchanged (Illinois and Non-Illinois stations compete in
two separate class-independent competitions). Also note: Illinois Portable,
Illinois Mobile and Illinois Rover Class Stations are not sub divided by
power level. Please review your entry prior to submission to insure a power
level class is indicated either on the required summary sheet, or in the log
file (Cabrillo) header, or somewhere in the log when submitting a paper log.
Not declaring a power level (QRP, Low Power or High Power) when submitting
an entry as either an Illinois Fixed or Non-Illinois station will result in
being classified as a high power station by default. Mobile, Rover and
Portable Illinois stations must declare QRP status if operating 5 Watts or
less. Failure to indicate QRP status will result in not being considered
for the QRP competition.
QRP = 5 Watts PEP or less
Low Power = Greater than 5 watts but not exceeding 200W PEP
High Power = Greater than 200 W PEP but not exceeding legal limit
See you all Sunday. Let us hope the propagation gods are with us.
