I agree that I would probably find an Iowa-only event rather boring, and I live in the state (albeit over on one edge).  Ninety-nine counties in that small area.  I have trouble working my own state in Sweepstakes as a CW operator.

Instead of an Iowa event, or even a Zero-Land event (which seems too big), how about instead an event based on the Midwest ARRL Division?  This would be Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Kansas.  You've got several major cities in that area, which would provide hams, plus would give destinations or starting points for mobilers.  Extra points if you work the ARRL organization officers and representatives from Division Director, Vice-Director, Section Managers, and below.  You could encourage several clubs to 1x1 calls for the event, plus I'll bet that W1AW would even designate a W1AW/0 station - again, bonus points for working those.

Just brainstorming...
