[ILQSO] IA QSO party

In my opinion, all the QSO parties in the zero call area in recent years have been non-events with the exception of Minnesota. This is not to cast stones at the hams in those states, but to point out the extreme difficulty of organizing a successful event. It's hard enough to pull this off in a small or densely-populated state. Creating and maintaining a QSO party that will get the interest of the contesting community in a state like Nebraska is the problem we have in the southern third of Illinois times ten. The same would be true for most other states in the call area.
Minnesota is the exception because of a very active local contesting club (MWA) and a relatively large number of mobile operators from MN and neighboring states who are willing to put in ten hours of driving *IN MINNESOTA IN FEBRUARY*.... That part is beyond my comprehension :)
A zero-land party might work. I wouldn't see participation being really high from any one state (except MN) but the total activity might be enough to keep callers coming. For goodness sake, make it a one-day event (Saturday)!!!
My 0.02.... 73, Jim N9JF

I agree that the Nebraska QSO party is a non-event. Most of the NE participants just work stations in the FL QSO party for points. You could probably fit all the active NE CW ops in a phone booth. The zero district QSO party would be cool; It could take all the low-population states in the midwest and make a decent QSO party with the combination.
