That is the kind of publicity we don't want!
If it did happen that way, I would personally like to burn the ears of
the station that did this, although we are only hearing one side of the
story.
Having heard several scenarios like this on the air, I also know it a
problem, both overzealous contesters not being careful enough (or being
totally rude) and those dead set against contester using "their"
frequency to the point of causing intentional interference. One does not
justify the other from either side of the fence.
I was calling CQ on 3905 at about 3:30 Sunday and worked an Illinois
station that indicated he was waiting for a net to start up on that
frequency. I asked when the net was to start and he indicated it started
at 4:30. He was at the radio an hour before net time, I am not sure
why. He did not ask I move nor indicate there was a problem, but I
assured him I would be gone long before 4:30. No problems, everybody
happy, at least that time.
No one owns a frequency, and no one has the right to force someone off a
frequency just because they can, unless it is mandated by the FCC.
Sadly, it happens and Ham Radio suffers because of it.

A huge thank you to everyone that helped out with the
Jamboree-On-The-Air that was hosted by the MAARC and their Venturing
Crew #9050. The scouts had a great time and learned alot. The interest
was sparked in many of the scouts, some leaders and even some parents.
The sad news of the event was spotty band conditions that made getting
DX stations hard. The other sad point was when a amateur radio operator
from Illinois came on to the same frequency that we had been calling CQ
JAMBOREE on and started doing his CQ Illinois QSO Party. He did not
even ask if the frequency was in use, he just jumped right in. I kindly
called him and stated that this frequency (7.270Mhz) is in use and has
been for the Jamboree-On-The-Air. He replied "Yeah, I know. Time for
you kids to go elsewhere and play and let some real operators use this
frequency." He then proceeded on with his CQing. To set the example,
we moved to a different frequency and band. I reassured the youth and
their leaders that this one amateur radio operator speaks only for
himself and not to judge amateur radio as a whole based upon one
person's opinion.
Thanks again to all those that helped!!
Best Regards,
Rich "Doc" Strait, KD8BGQ
