A huge thank you to everyone that helped out with the
Jamboree-On-The-Air that was hosted by the MAARC and their Venturing
Crew #9050. The scouts had a great time and learned alot. The interest
was sparked in many of the scouts, some leaders and even some parents.
The sad news of the event was spotty band conditions that made getting
DX stations hard. The other sad point was when a amateur radio operator
from Illinois came on to the same frequency that we had been calling CQ
JAMBOREE on and started doing his CQ Illinois QSO Party. He did not
even ask if the frequency was in use, he just jumped right in. I kindly
called him and stated that this frequency (7.270Mhz) is in use and has
been for the Jamboree-On-The-Air. He replied "Yeah, I know. Time for
you kids to go elsewhere and play and let some real operators use this
frequency." He then proceeded on with his CQing. To set the example,
we moved to a different frequency and band. I reassured the youth and
their leaders that this one amateur radio operator speaks only for
himself and not to judge amateur radio as a whole based upon one
person's opinion.
Thanks again to all those that helped!!
Best Regards,
Rich "Doc" Strait, KD8BGQ
