Some logging programs permit you to configure the screen graphics. TR allows you to enter the "non-standard" colors in the config file. (See the TR online manual)

White on either black, blue, gray, red or green are most visible in daylight... enough different colors to allow you to keep all the boaxes and lines straight. But the white font is what you see when the screen is dim.

Hoods also help a lot. I found a cardboard box the same width as the laptop. Set it on end with the open side to you, slide the laptop into it. More rigid than taping a hood onto the screen, allows you to close up and remove the PC.  Be sure that the fan ports are not blocked.
