Joe (and the group)

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the sponsoring club enclosed below is
a message you sent in 2000 replying to several county line questions.
Assuming you haven't changed your mind, Jeff has a detailed map and it's a
narrow river, I would think Jeff could get within 100 yards of the county
line. Of course a good GPS mapping system could confirm that fact very
easily.

I go across a county line every day that runs down the middle of the Rock
River. One side of the bridge has a Henry county sign and the other side of
the bridge has a Rock Island county sign. And there is a parking spot that
is easily within 100 yards of the middle of the river and 20 feet from the
Rock Island county sign. Makes it interesting doesn't ?

Hi, everyone.
As part of the sponsoring club, I guess this is where I chime in.
Regarding how close one should be to a county line for both of them
to count:
1) Safety is the first priority. Don't endanger yourself or others
just to straddle the county line.
2) Don't trespass onto private property to be near a county line.
3) You can consider yourself at the border if you're within 100 yards of it.

If two mobiles show up at the same location at the same time, I would
say that both stations have an equal right to operate from there, and
need to work it out among themselves. Even if it were necessary to
separate themselves by a couple hundred feet to prevent receiver
overload, we would still allow them both to say they were in counties
X, Y, and Z. We just want people to have a good time and make QSOs.

Jeff,

This hasn't come up before, so guess I'll have to make a judgement call:
No, we won't permit using a river as a county line for the purpose of
2/3/4 county border operation.
