[ILHam] CQ100 Question

Hey everyone!

Dan in Chicago here. 
I've been on air via Echolink since 06 February 2007 and just got CQ100. 

I need some info not found at the site or that I may have skipped over by accident. 

I taled to someone on Echolink who told me that CQ100 is "pretend" and that users are not actually on air. Is this true? Is it just private computer to computer connection? Or is this just someone being smart?
