[ICOM] Icom 7300-a contest radio?

John, you might want to join the 7300 Yahoo group. Although the opinions there are naturally 'biased', there are a lot of active contesters with + opinions about the radio. Also, some chaps with extensive backgrounds in SDRs.
I really enjoy mine and if you do get one for contesting, I suggest you also get the German FA-AS automatic antenna switch.
Sure you can do the same with an external, manual switch, but the FA-AS uses the radio's band data and switches instantly.
Also, don't forget the internal antenna tuner in the 7300 will match a 10:1 SWR, just at reduced power......

I've done some contesting with mine (but I'm not really an HF contester..)

In my view it works quite well.   The bandscope help find other stations to work in my experience.   For the money I spent for the radio I am quite pleased.   

In my opinion If the bandscope isn't a consideration there might be some other choices for a similar amount of money.   I really wanted a bandscope so buying the 7300 was a logical choice for me.
