Some of the radios did not exhibit the speaker crackle, only the over
the air crackle. The HM-98S was the mike released on the 2100. However,
later models or last production models may have the HM-133 since it
appeared on the 2200 and 2300 afterwords. I frankly didn't like the
HM-133 especially mobile hence why I changed my 2200 to the HM-98. There
are many of these rigs out there, you could always ask to borrow
someones mike to see how it performs on your rig. I know of people here
with the 2200 and 2300 had similar problems and changed the mike and the
problem seem to go away.
Sorry, that's about all the suggestions I can come up with. A mike swap
is probably the best way to determine whether it is the mike or radio.

They usually entail opening up the unit and tightening the PC board mounting screws. Adding a ground strap to a couple of the screws and the case ground. I'd say about 90 - 95% of the time this remedies the problem. Otherwise the 2100 is not a bad rig especially for mobile and I like the old HM-98 mike with the tone button cover for mobile. Also, you might swap the RJ45 mike connectors around on the mike. Both ends of the cord are the same.
