Tom,
The problem is usually caused by failure of the electrolytic capacitors.
They are pretty easy to replace. I have done a couple. That is still a
good transceiver. I have 7800 and 781s as backup, but still keep a 765.
If you have a schematic, you should be able to pick out the DC - DC
converter caps, order a set and you should be good for another 25 years.
