[ICOM] IC-761 High Pitched Whine

Hello Tom,

I bet the problem is an electrolytic filter capacitor in the DC-Dc converter 
on the
display board, I once had an IC-751 which had the same noise and it was a 
bad
filter cap in the DC-DC circuit. Here is a link to a sell on eBay who has a 
complete
display circuit from an IC-751. Not sure if the same display module was used 
in the
IC-761 as in the IC-751 but the radios are of the same vintage with the 
IC-761 being
basically a IC-751 with the transceiver, antenna tuner and power supply all 
in the same box.
You could down load a free copy of the IC-751 service manual and compare 
size, shape of the
display to the one in the IC-761. If nothing else, the board on eBay would 
have many of the
same components in common, especially the DC-DC circuit. In the 2nd picture 
of the
display on eBay, looking straighd down at the board the DC-DC circuit is on 
the right with
the virtually unobtainable DC-DC transformer which is the part that usually 
fails.
