George: I have seen chatter on the internet regarding issues with the HM-133 microphones of which I believe you are speaking. I did see one mod where an additional capacitor was added to the  mic circuitry, and I read another where Icom had  gone to outsourcing the mic, and another where there  were counterfeit mics being produced. Your issue may require more investigation.
Good Luck,
Larry K4LXV

Subject: [ICOM] ICOM IC-208H mic gain question

I've had two IC-208H microphones and I get reports of low mic gain.  I've tried the different settings referred to in the owner's manual, without much reported difference.  I've also opened the insulation behind the aperture in the mic itself.  Is there an internal pot adjustment, or part replacement that can be used for this purpose?   I'm also looking for about a 2 ft. coiled mic 8-conductor cable for the HM-133 on it also!
Thanks and 73 - George, N9EJS
