OK, got it. I have used both the UX-14 and RC-10 and like them both, in different ways. The RC-10 allows fast QSY without a computer (as you know) and has it's good points.
You are right, and a big part of the reason a lot of people don't realize you can do CI-V with the older ICOM radios is their owner's manual. If it was printed prior to the introduction of the UX-14 CI-IV to CI-V Converter, the only reference to computer control in their manual is to the old parallel interface EX-309. A lot of people still look for them, because they think that's what you need. The manual says so!
About 8 or 9 years ago I developed a series of mods to the IC-745 Logic Unit board that would allow installation and use of the ICOM UX-14 or PIEXX clone. For awhile, I did a lot of mods to IC-745's including the CI-V conversion.
