[ICOM] IC-736 auto tuner question

George,

The tuner will tune to a memorized preset however it will not tune 
properly until it gets a shot of RF power on a large frequency or band 
change.
Changing bands like you mention it would be normal for the tuner to tune 
while you are talking, maybe even tuning once and tuning again on the 
next transmission until its satisfied it has the lowest match possible.

Sometimes its ok to give the tuner a shot of carrier when you change 
bands. Just be mindful when you do that others will hear a whistle in 
their receivers from the carrier transmitted.
I don't have the IC-736 manual handy but seem to remember holding in the 
tuner button will also force the tuner to tune. You have to do that for 
6 meter tuner operation as the tuner is not automatic like on HF in the 
IC-736.
